Welcome to Rutherglen High School

We aim to provide a range of learning experiences, which meet the needs of all our learners.  Working together in partnership: school staff, parents, and our partner agencies can help us achieve this goal.

Communication is essential and we would welcome you to contact Rutherglen High with regards to any aspect of your child's education.

This website provides you with key information in relation to all aspects of the school including school procedures and personnel. I hope it also gives you a flavour of our culture and ethos.

We look forward to working with you over the coming years to ensure that the young people enjoy a happy and successful time at Rutherglen High School.

Dear Pupils, Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Partners,
As the Headteacher of Rutherglen High School, it is an honour and a privilege to welcome you to our new school website.
We hope that you find our new website to be a useful hub of information, with clear signposts and supports.
Our aim is that our website will celebrate the vibrant and exceptional abilities of our young people and showcase the many learning opportunities they are involved in.
As our school community continues its improvement journey, our website will support and reflect some of our shared efforts in this regard.
As always, we welcome your ideas and feedback about the website and/ or any other aspect of our school.

It is essential for the future of Rutherglen High School that we work together to create a safe, happy and ambitious school community, where our pupils and their families are at the centre of our decision making.

Multi-sensory Experiences

At Rutherglen High School we provide experiences that are inclusive for all.

Milestones-2

Total Approach to Communication

We value all means of communication including speech, facial expression, body language, gesture, Makaton, symbols, objects of reference and/or electronic aids. We ensure communication methods are adapted to suit individual needs and abilities.

Sensory Stories

We use sensory stories across base classes which engage all senses and promote multi-sensory exploration in turn providing an inclusive approach for all learners.

Makaton

The school uses Makaton which is a communication tool with speech, signs and symbols to enable people with communication challenges to engage in an alternative and appropriate way. Makaton supports the development of essential communication skills such as listening, attention, comprehension, memory and expressive speech and language.

Pupil Testimonials

We encourage pupils to participate in our pupil voice.  They share their views, wishes and experiences of their school.  This results in meaningful change, better outcomes as well as facilitating a sense of empowerment and inclusion.
